TPCC invites you to join their November Climate Conversation in exploring resilience at the intersection of housing, education, justice and design on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at noon.
As Minnesota’s climate changes, communities and partners are employing innovative ideas and solutions to bolster resilience. Ensuring housing infrastructure resilience is crucial. Access to safe and affordable housing is a key component of building resilient communities. Stable and secure housing allows individuals and communities to better withstand and recover from disasters or challenges, contributing to overall social and economic stability within a region.
Some of the barriers to widespread adoption of green housing practices include a persistent lack of access to affordable, reliable design and construction services, information, training and opportunity.
Rachel Wagner, member of the Climate Reality Leadership Corps, is a designer/architect, innovator and educator. As creative and technical director and business owner of Just Housing, Rachel creates and implements integrated solutions to systemic problems. Rachel will share history, perspective and a business model that aims to enable and accelerate widespread adoption of sustainable housing solutions in the Upper Midwest. Rachel will demonstrate how communities can address a fundamental concern at the core of equitable adaptation to climate change. During this one-hour conversation, Rachel will highlight strategies to remove housing barriers for individuals and communities. Some of these strategies include public engagement and education, collaborative organizational partnerships, and the development of "tools for the trades" to build green.
